Singapore AUDAX is a long distance cycling club for cyclists who would like to cover long distances at their own speed. Singapore AUDAX promotes cycling randonnees a allure libre, or at unrestricted speed according to the model which it created in 1921 in Paris. The club is governed by the regulations of the Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux.
There are a number of rides of 200km, 300km, 400km and 600km with the ultimate goal of qualifying for Paris Brest Paris (PBP), a ride that takes place in France every four years. The next PBP is in 2015.
SingaporeAUDAX represents Singapore in a global group of like minded organizations. Not surprising, Singapore AUDAX was founded by a man from France….Jean-Francois Torrelle, or JFT or JF as he is known in cycling circles, has created many long distance enthusiasts in Southeast Asia.
Singapore AUDAX was started in 2006 in the pure spirit of “randonneurs” by Jean-Francois TORRELLE. He had himself completed Paris Brest Paris in 2003, and had enjoyed many years on the bike in Europe, Australia and Asia. JF and a couple of friends decided to start a local branch of Audax Randonneurs in Singapore, the first one in Asia. JF later went on to help establish Audax in China, Taiwan and the Philippines.
The spirit is very important: it is about riding with other friendly riders, in challenging courses, at your own speed. There is a place for everyone, whether you are an accustomed rider or someone newer to the sport, but keen in getting serious in the game.
2007 saw the first Singapore contingent taking part in Paris Brest Paris, 3 riders from Singapore. After this initial foray into the PBP world, the popularity of Audax great in Singapore. It was common to get 80+ rides on a 200KM brevet.
In 2011, there were a dozen riders from Singapore. 2015 will likely see an increase number of long distance fans in Paris on August 16, 2015.
At the end of 2012, JFT moved to France, and the long distance cycling community rested…with PBP 2015 it is rekindling its legs for the Singapore crew!
As we say, Friendships born on the bike are solid as steel… (or carbon fiber now !)
Enjoy your riding with Audax Randonneurs Singapore!! “
Audax is a cycling sport in which participants attempt to cycle long distances within a pre-defined time limit. Audax is a non-competitive sport: success in an event is measured by its completion. Audax has its origins in Italian endurance sports of the late nineteenth century, and the rules were formalised in France in the early twentieth century. In the present day, there are two forms of Audax: the original group-riding style, Euraudax, governed by Unions des Audax, and the free-paced (allure libre) style usually known as Randonneuring, governed by Audax Club Parisien. The original form is mostly popular in France, but also in Holland, Belgium and Germany. Randonneuring is popular in many countries including France, Great Britain, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia, Canada, the USA and China.
