C2P for a Great Cause

C2P Riders – Chiang Mai – Phuket March 25 2017

These familiar AUDAX faces will be gearing up for a big ride from Chiang Mai Thailand to Phuket Thailand. The ride is approximately 1600 km and the riders plan on doing it in six grueling days. Each day the plan is to cover 250-300km per day. The ride, the VisionQuest1500, will be raising money for A New Vision, an organization that prevents curable blindness by enabling cataract operations across Southeast Asia. If you are in a position to give, please support our goal of raising $10,000 to support A New Vision.  NO donation is too small!

The History of C2P

Like most good rides, this ride was planned over some good food and a couple of beers at Brewerkz National Stadium. Andy Bennett and Patrick Williams had the idea to do a massive ride. The original ride plan was a route that would take the riders from Singapore across the entire Malaysian peninsula into Phuket Thailand. This ride is approximately 1500km which is where the 1500 came from. The VisionQuest was added when we decided we needed a good reason to do this ride and doing it for a worthy charity will give us strength to answer the question ‘why are we doing this again?’….which will likely come up many times over the course of the six days. The original plan was also to do this ride unsupported with panniers…aka Cowboy Style. With collaborative group discussion, the original plan changed to include some vehicle support and hotels to attract some less hardened riders into the fray. In addition, after getting some guidance about the southern border in Thailand we swapped the route from Singapore – Phuket to Chiang Mai to Phuket. With less border crossing the ride should be a bit easier! In addition, we also have a bonus 100km so now the VisionQuest1500 is actually 1600 KM….too late to change the logo though.

Special thanks go to Fidel Kreuzer who has helped arrange all the support and  who has also provided some great insights on the local roadways and directions!  The riders will arrive in Phuket on March 30 if all goes as planned.
